Why ignorant people should not be on Twitter: Nancy Lee Grahn edition

While most peoople were celebrating Viola Davis’s historic victory last night at the Emmys there were still a few Bitter Bitches out there. Most of them were upset that Viola “brought race into it,” because race had nothing to do with the fact it took 67 years for a black woman to win, right?

Yeah right.

One of bitterest of them all was a soap opera actress by the name of Nancy Lee Grahn, who while claiming to be a “human rights advocate” took to Twitter to publicly humiliate herself on the topic of human rights, specifically human rights for POC.

First tweet:

I wish I loved #ViolaDavis Speech, but I thought she should have let @shondarhimes write it. #Emmys

This is the first clue she had no fucking idea what had just happened. Did she really think Shonda would have ignored the race issue? Is Shonda a “safe” back woman now?

Had she stopped there, probably no one would have heard of her. But in a classic Stupid Person on Twitter move she didn’t stop.

Im a fucking actress for 40 yrs. None of us get respect or opportunity we deserve. Emmys not venue 4 racial opportunity. ALL women belittled

Yeah, because WOC don’t face the double whammy of being a woman and being a POC. The first win by a black woman in the lead Actress in a Drama category was the perfect time to talk about racial equality because it took 67 years for this happen.

As bad as that was, she managed to double down:

@nxssy I do 2. I think she’s the bees knees but she’s elite of TV performers. Brilliant as she is. She has never been discriminated against

Yup, you read that right, this dumb bitch actually thinks because Viola achieved success she never faced discrimination in the profession.

The stupid is strong in this one.

Rightfully she got dragged on Twitter. Never, ever piss off Black Twitter. It ain’t pretty, but damn, is it funny.

@NancyLeeGrahn Misspelling words, saying shit that doesn’t make sense, I’m telling y’all, Nancy is Amanda Bynes in disguise.

So Nancy, realizing what a blunder she had just made, tried to clarify her remarks but only dug the hole deeper:

I never mean to diminish her accomplishment. I wish I could get her roles. She is a goddess. I want equality 4 ALL women, not just actors.

Nancy did try diminish Viola’s accomplishment by denying the obstacles she faced coming up. Does this idiot really think that it’s a level playing field out there? Really? Honey, the other 66 Emmys were won by white girls, the score is 66-1 in your favor. Don’t cry just yet, K?

Eventually Nancy finally realizes she stepped in it and taking a page out of Matt Damon’s whitesplaining book she makes the “Sorry if you were offended” apology:

I apologize 2 anyone who I offended. I’m women advocate since I became one. After reading responses, I hear u and my tweet was badly phrased

Badly phrased? Um, no, it was stupid, clueless and racist. But our plucky little racist keeps on keeping on:

@JuztKilo Ur right. I sounded like an asshole. I didnt meant to. I had a valid point but I expressed it badly. Ur right. I apologize

No, you did not have a valid point. You had a whiney-ass racist point. there is a difference, learn it.

30 yrs an advocate 4 human rights & now i’m a racist. Color me heartbroken. Twitter can bring out the best & sadly tonight the worst of us.

30 year as a human rights advocate? You’ve been doing it wrong sweetie. Yes, you are a racist. You said racist things and denied a black woman her experience and her moment. If you were not a racist you would have applauded and moved on. If you do not want to be thought of as a racist, don’t say racist shit. Why is this so hard? Oh wait, it’s not, you’re just a moron.

Then there was glimmer of hope that she might have “gotten it”

“I apologize for my earlier tweets and now realize I need to check my own privilege…My intention was not to take this historic and important moment from Viola Davis or other women of color but I realize that my intention doesn’t matter here because that is what I ended up doing. I learned a lot tonight and I admit that there are still some things I don’t understand but I am trying to and will let this be a learning experience for me.”

Well good, except:

@MelioraEsq the meaness of these ppl tonight. I feel betrayed by ppl I would’ve marched for.

Insert four minute sigh here.  Again it’s all about HER and how mean people are to HER and why doesn’t anyone understand HER pain? Never mind that she just disrespected someone she supposedly marched for.

There were numerous other posts where she complained that she apologized and yet people still kept piling on. Here’s the thing Nancy dear, when you piss people off you don’t get to decided when they have to stop being angry. You take your lumps, learn your lesson and figure what it really means to be a human rights advocate. Because humans, ALL humans, deserve a better advocate

  1. Black Twitter carved her up and served her to the vultures, who then chewed her up and spit her out.  LOL

What’s sad is that her display of idiocy won’t hurt her professionally, socially, or financially.  The won’t lose her job, her friends(social standing), or her money. D*mn!

    1. Where is the ‘edit’ button?  I thought I had an hour to make any changes?

Anyway, I know this source is not the most reliable, and I usually wait until the more respected sources confirm such things.  But even if untrue, I’m shocked that something like this is even happening.  WOW.
