Ever since Lupita Nyong’o was cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I’ve been dying to know what her character was going to look like. Due to the general lack of women of color in the Star Wars universe, I’ll admit to being disappointed when I found out that she was going to be a completely computer generated character. But my love for everything Star Wars and my excitement at Lupita’s involvement and her own excitement with the project have helped me to reconcile those feelings a bit.
And thanks to eagle-eyed YouTuber Emergency Awesome, we may have finally gotten a peek at her character, Maz Kanata, in a new teaser trailer.
I think she’s kind of cute in her own googly-eyed way. Either way, I’m sure Lupita is going to kill this role just like she has all of her other ones. I’m already super-hyped for December 18th, and this has only made me more excited (if that’s even possible).
Franchesca Ramsey’s MTV Decoded videos are some of the best things ever posted on YouTube. Her discussions on race and racism are timely, informative and don’t pull any punches. I love them all, but her recent video “White People Whitesplain Whitesplaining” is probably one of my all time favorites.
It shows how even someone who truly thinks they’re doing something good and well-meaning can be harmful and offensive. Watch and be

BET has released the first promo for Brandy’s upcoming television show Zoe Ever After. Brandy looks flawless, and from the little I can see, the show looks like it’s going to be worth a watch.
Zoe Ever After premieres in January 2016.
Finally we’re starting to get some promotion of Jill Marie Jones and her character from Starz’ upcoming Ash vs Evil Dead. She and star Bruce Campbell sat down with Comic Book Resources during New York Comic the upcoming comedy/horror.
It’s also recently been announced that Ash vs Evil Dead has been renewed for a second season ahead of the show’s October 31st premiere. So we’ll be seeing Jill Marie Jones’ Amanda Fisher on our screens for at least two seasons. \o/
Ash vs Evil Dead premieres on Starz on October 31st at 9 pm/est.
One of the best things to come out of the Emmys besides Best Supporting Actress wins by Regina King and Uzo Aduba, and an historic win by Viola Davis for Best Lead Actress in a Drama, was a commercial starring Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson and Mary J. Blige.
In my household commercials are usually obstacles to be overcome and fast-forwarded through, but this Apple commercial was so good that I’ve watched it multiple times. It reminds me of afternoons spent with my girls, drinking wine, eating pizza and happily cutting up. It hit all the right notes, making me want to buy whatever Apple was selling.
I’m still not completely sure what it is, but thanks to Kerry, Taraji and Mary, I want one.
